What We Do - "Promoting Life Long Learning"

We provide educational, recreational and leisure activities for people over 50 (mainly retired and semi-retired) living in Tameside and the immediate surrounding area. We currently have around 130 members. No qualifications are required other than being over 50.

We currently have 10 interest groups including:- Painting & Drawing, Craft, Music Appreciation, Scrabble, Photography, Book Club, History, Ten Pin Bowling, Walking / Rambling & Travel and The Loose Enders. These groups and meetings are held at various centres. The Committee would be pleased to consider offers to run other activities. If there is sufficient interest we hope to start Music (making) and Wine (tasting) groups.

We also hold, during term time, a weekly meeting with invited speakers on a wide variety of subjects of general interest. It is not unusual for there to be 70 members present at these meetings.

In addition, a number of trips and visits are organised to places of educational and general interest during the academic year. Details of these trips and booking for them is available at the weekly meeting.

Enrolment usually takes place in early September. For the 2009/2010 year, enrolment is on Monday 6th September from 13:00 to 15:00 hours at The United Church, Union Street, Hyde. There is an annual registration fee of £10.00 which all members are expected to pay on initial registration. Cheques should be made payable to Tameside U3A.

If you are not in full-time employment and are interested in joining, you can come to our weekly meeting where you will receive a warm welcome, or contact our chairman. If you miss enrolment, you don't have to wait until next year!
